Carmen and Jason hired me to document their ceremony and then to have an extensive portrait shoot at key locations around Manchester city center. The ceremony was held at Heron House just opposite the Town Hall in the centre of Manchester. Carmen and Jason had a selected group of friends that would witness the ceremony as their families resided in different counteries but were present in the form of facetime.

A big part of the Chinese wedding tradition is to have a large collection of creative photos to mark the occasion. My eye is trained to be more of a documentary photographer these days, but I am more than capable to switch things up and conjure up some creative portraits for the couple, should the situation need it. I usually include a few stylised, creative, couple’s shots on a wedding day, but it’s only a small amount so it doesn’t detract from the rhythm of my natural candid approach.

Manchester is a playground for photography and I love to see how creative I can be using the many areas the city has to offer. Carmen & Jason sent me a location list that they would like me to consider. These locations included Spinningfields, where we went to the Ivy for a few photos and a drink of tea. We circled around the rest of Spinningfields to pause and use the various points of interest: including the orange tiled cladding on The Oast House. We also took a little trip inside the John Rylands Library whilst we were there to utilise the grand architecture of such a beautiful, historic building.

Once we were finished at this side of Manchester, we headed back up to the center of town, near the Central Library area to see what was available to us at this end of the city.
