AN INDUSTRIAL + HISTORIC WEDDING VENUE

Holly + Dec hosted their wedding reception at Standedge Tunnel and here is their wedding photography. Standedge Tunnel is an industrial and historic warehouse wedding venue in Huddersfield. Standedge Tunnel visitors centre is situated next to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and is Britain’s longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel. Such an amazing engineering feat that cuts through the Pennine hillside and connects up to Diggle in Saddleworth. The building in which the wedding takes place was used as a goods unloading warehouse and comprises three usable floors on the day, enabling you to have a very large capacity wedding.

CELEBRATING IN A WAREHOUSE

I’m a huge fan of old buildings being re-purposed for modern events like weddings. Old warehouses have a super amount of character to celebrate in. What I liked about this place was the space in which the guests can freely flow around the space and have the whole use of the building. Also from a documentary point of view, this venue has loads of natural light pouring through it, not usually that common in warehouse weddings, but it makes documentary photos look great.

AN FUN WEDDING DAY

Holly + Dec booked me to capture their wedding from bridal preparations until the first dance. They both got ready away from the venue and arrived in time for their ceremony which was on the top floor of this fully licensed wedding venue. Holly and the bridesmaids got on to the canal boat in the town of Marsden and headed towards the venue. I found this really cool, arriving at your wedding via a boat! Standedge Tunnel is just a short trip down the canal from Marsden, so their journey didn’t take long.

The three floors were for specific parts of Holly + Dec’s day. The ceremony room at right at the top and is filled with light from the skylights on the roof. After the ceremony, the guests headed back down to the bottom and outside for the confetti throwing. Here the guest got the use the outdoor space and ground level of the building to mingle and congratulate the newlyweds. There is a sub ground layer to the building which the guests can also access, this is the museum part of the venue where guests can congregate and eat canapes, or in Holly’s + Dec’s case, canapes and ice cream from the ice cream van that was hired.

The middle floor is used for the wedding breakfast and speeches, and also the dancing! These lot didn’t need much to get them dancing by the way. After a fun, relaxing day, out came the shots and almost everyone was having them. By the time Dec’s band friends, who also were guests, got up and did their set everyone was in good spirits to kick start the night off. Holly + Dec’s dog even got on the dance floor!
